Master Mana Generation, Storage, and Essential Rune Creation

guide

To advance in Botania, understanding how to generate and manage Mana, the mod's mystical energy, is crucial. This guide will explain the tools and processes involved in creating magical plants, crafting runes, and synthesizing powerful alloys.

Creating Flora with the Petal Apothecary

The Petal Apothecary is a fundamental block for infusing plants with mystical energy. Place it in the world and fill it with water by right-clicking or throwing in a Water Bucket. Once filled, throw Mystical Petals into it, which the apothecary will absorb. After providing the correct petals, finalize the crafting process by throwing in any Seeds. All Functional and Generating Flora are created here.

You can remove the last item thrown into the Petal Apothecary by right-clicking it with an empty hand. If you fill the apothecary with lava instead of water, it acts as a brazier, destroying any items that come into contact with it. Comparators can detect the apothecary's fullness. For automated systems, a Dispenser can fill Water Buckets, which can then be dropped into the apothecary to refill it.

For efficient bulk crafting, if you right-click the Petal Apothecary with an empty hand within twenty seconds of crafting a flower and refilling its water, it will pull another set of the same ingredients from your inventory.

Crafting Runes with the Runic Altar

Runic creation is a vital part of a botanist's progression and requires a solid understanding of Mana manipulation. Runes are essential components for complex magical devices and flora, crafted on a Runic Altar.

To use the Runic Altar, begin by placing the desired rune components onto it, either by right-clicking or tossing them. Next, direct a Mana Spreader with a Mana supply towards the altar. Your wand will indicate the Mana transfer progress. Once the altar has received enough Mana, drop or right-click a piece of Livingrock onto it, then use your wand on the altar to collect your newly crafted rune.

There are 16 types of runes. The most basic are named after the Four Elements, intermediate ones after the Four Seasons, and advanced runes after the Seven Deadly Sins. A separate Rune of Mana also exists.

If the Runic Altar is not actively accepting Mana, right-clicking it with an empty hand will remove the last item placed on it. An attached Comparator will emit a signal strength of 1 if the altar is accepting Mana, and a signal strength of 2 when it is ready to craft the rune. Any runes used as catalysts in a recipe will be returned upon completion. Similar to the Petal Apothecary, right-clicking the altar with an empty hand after a recipe is complete will pull another set of the same ingredients from your inventory for faster bulk crafting.

Examples of Runic Altar recipes include:

Synthesizing Terrasteel

Terrasteel is a powerful magical alloy requiring significant Mana to synthesize. Its creation involves a Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate placed over a checkerboard pattern of Lapis Lazuli Blocks and Livingrock (or Shimmerrock). This plate needs to receive Mana, with Sparks being the most efficient transfer method.

Once the plate is set up and ready, toss one Manasteel Ingot, one Mana Diamond, and one Mana Pearl onto it to begin the infusion. Picking up any of these items will halt the process, resulting in the loss of all transferred Mana. Creating a single piece of Terrasteel consumes approximately half a Mana Pool's worth of Mana. Multiple Sparks can accelerate the infusion.

The Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate has one recipe:

Black Lotus for Mana

The elusive Black Lotus is a flower known to contain a significant amount of concentrated Mana. While it does not grow or reproduce, its Mana can be released by dissolving it in a non-empty Mana Pool by simply throwing it in.
