Automating Your Factory with Conveyors, Routers, and Specialized Machines

guide

To automate your factory, you can use Conveyor Belts, Item Routers, and specialized machines like the Garden Cloche and Automated Workbench.

Conveyor Belts

Conveyor Belts provide an unpowered way to move items and creatures. They are primarily designed for items, but can also move animals like cows and sheep. Items placed on a belt will travel along it. If a belt pushes items against an inventory with available space, the items will be inserted. If there is no space, items will accumulate on the belt. These backups can cause items like food to decay.

You can modify Conveyor Belts using an Engineer's Hammer. Right-clicking rotates the belt, and sneak + right-clicking adjusts whether it runs upwards or downwards. Right-clicking with any dye will color the belt's walls for identification.

Several specialized Conveyor Belts are available:

* Redstone Controlled Conveyor Belt: These belts move by default and can be disabled with a redstone signal. An Engineer's Screwdriver cannot change their behavior. * Dropping Conveyor Belt: These belts have a hatch that allows items to fall downwards. They can insert items into inventories below or simply drop them if the space below is empty. A redstone signal can close the hatch. * Extracting Conveyor Belt: Similar to hoppers, these belts pull items from an adjacent inventory. Use an Engineer's Hammer with sneak + right-click to change the side from which it pulls items. An Engineer's Screwdriver adjusts the speed of item removal. * Vertical Conveyor Belt: These belts move materials straight upwards using attached buckets. Despite the name, they do not transport fluids. They can insert items into inventories above them or expel items over the top onto other conveyors. * Splitting Conveyor Belt: This belt directs incoming objects and creatures alternately to the left and right. It will not divide stacks of items, but rather sends entire stacks or entities in one direction or the other. * Covered Conveyor Belt: These function like standard conveyor belts but include a scaffolding cover. This cover prevents entities from picking up items from the belt. You can change the cover's appearance by right-clicking it with other types of scaffolding or glass. The Dropping, Extracting, Splitting, and Vertical Conveyors can also be covered with scaffolding to prevent item pickup while retaining their normal functions.

Item Router

The Item Router is used to distribute and sort items into inventories, machines, and conveyors. Items fed into the router will exit from configured matching sides or any open sides, in that order. Items can enter the router from any side. If items cannot be sorted, the router will prevent further input. Routers will also pull items from connected routers and inventories when items are pulled from the router itself.

Each side of the router corresponds to a cardinal direction and can have a set of filters. Buttons above each filter allow for further adjustments:

* Tag-based filtering: This option allows items through if they share a specific tag with the item configured in the filter. The scroll wheel selects the tag. This is useful for grouping items like ingots or ores. * Damage filter: This option makes the filter ignore the damage value of tools or weapons. * Components filter: This option considers special item properties, such as enchantments or color.

Fluid Pipes

Fluid Pipes offer an effective way to transport fluids, avoiding the need to move many tanks or buckets. Fluids entering a pipe system will be evenly distributed across all available outputs. At low pressure, fluid transport is slow. Pressurized fluids from a Fluid Pump or certain large machines will move much faster.

When placed, Fluid Pipes connect to all possible connections. An Engineer's Hammer can connect or disconnect pipes from each other and from tanks. Fluid Pipes can be covered with scaffolding by placing it on the pipe; sneak + right-clicking removes the cover. Right-clicking a pipe with any dye will color it for easy identification. Colored pipes will not connect to newly placed pipes.

Garden Cloche

Garden Cloches are machines designed for rapid plant growth in a controlled environment. They automatically harvest produce. Power is supplied via plugs on the top and sides, while fluids and items enter through other ports. When powered and supplied with water, the Garden Cloche grows crops. Fertilizers like Sulfur or Industrial Fertilizer significantly increase growth speed. Only one fertilizer is active at a time and remains dissolved until consumed. Soil and seeds are placed in the middle; dirt is automatically tilled into farmland. Harvested items are stored in slots on the right and are automatically output through the front hatch.

The Garden Cloche supports 40 recipes, including:

* Allium * Azure Bluet * Bamboo * Beetroot (x2) * Blue Orchid * Brown Mushroom * Cactus * Carrot (x2) * Chorus Fruit * Cornflower * Crimson Fungus * Dandelion * Fern * Glow Berries * Industrial Hemp Fiber * Lilac * Lily of the Valley * Melon * Moss Block * Nether Wart (x2) * Orange Tulip * Oxeye Daisy * Peony * Pink Tulip

Automated Workbench

The Automated Workbench is a machine capable of assembling items based on a Blueprint. After constructing the multiblock, a Blueprint is placed on its drawing table. Once an item is selected for creation, the assembly process begins. The machine requires materials, supplied through the two hatches marked with blue dots, and power, supplied above these hatches. Finished items are dropped at the end of the conveyor belt. A redstone signal applied to the control panel below the drawing table will pause the machine; an Engineer's Screwdriver can invert this behavior.
